Until my big granny afghan project, I’ve never tried blocking before. It is magic folks! My rather sad looking squarish shapes metamorphosed into lovely squares! I simply spread a big towel on our mattress (make sure to peel back the sheets first unless you don’t mind them getting holes). My husband wasn’t too happy with the holes I punched round one… Get a water sprayer filled with tepid water and have some T-pins or straight pins on hand as well as a ruler.

I then laid out each square, measured every single one and pinned them out to the exact measurements so they’d be consistent. After they were pinned, I misted them and allowed them to airdry. The finished product is lovely but I still need to get some good pictures of it. Our camera broke so I have to use our older, crappier one to take them.

Ugh, I’m having technical difficulties so if you want to check out the pictures go here or here.

I love fall. The crisp days, colorful trees, and blustery rainy storms. With it comes colds and coughs unfortunately. But that means I’ve gotten lots of snuggly days with my boys and time to finish up and start yarny projects.

My cousin is expecting her baby this December and her shower was earlier this month so I buckled down and finished up a baby blanket for her son that I started some time ago! I didn’t like the patterns edge so I created my own design and even took my own hand at writing a pattern for it!

Eh hem. Here it is:

For edge:

Row 1: 1 ch, 1 sc in each st or position to end, turn.

Row 2: Same as row 1

Row 3: 1 ch, *sc 3, ch 4* -don’t skip any stitches, repeat from * until the end. Join with sl after ch 4 in 1st sc3, turn

Row 4: 1 ch, *sc in 2nd sc (middle sc in the group of 3 sc’s), sc 5 in ch 4 space * Repeat from * until end. Join final sc with sl in first sc.

I had been hoping to hold off on posting until my site got up and running how I want it but who knows when that will be!

It’s been busy in the Tron household. New driveway, new paint, new doors…my hands are so cramped and sore from painting I’m afraid I’ve been unable to do much crocheting.

In the meantime, I figured I’d share another one of my projects. Here is yet another baby blanket I made for a friend and her baby!

I wasn’t happy with any edges I found for these granny blankets so I came up with a simple but elegant scallopy edge:

Thanks for looking!

I’ve got a little something in the works right now in addition to granny square blanket. I needed some organization in my life so hopefully I’ll have some pictures to share of that with you soon. Second, it’s my son’s 3rd b-day party this weekend so I’ll be away. But I am making an amazingly awesome cake for him (hopefully..) and I will take lots of pictures of that as well. I’ve got big plans.

I love rainy weather. Love it. And it’s a good thing as Western Washington has more than it’s fair share of them. There’s just something so cozy and domesticating about the rain. I automatically want to bake something yummy, cuddle my children, do a little crafting… Our yard has been so dry and brown that I can almost hear the sigh of relief. Sometimes, I even like to take rainy walks. It’s just cleansing and refreshing. I’m afraid that if I were to move to a particularly dry climate, I would wither away without all this wet.

So what do rainy days entail in this house? Craft time:

Errands:

Cleaning:

And of course, yarny fun!

I’ve been reading all these lovely crafty blogs for ages now and I am finally taking the plunge. Here goes: I am Sara, mother of two little boys, wife and stay at home mom. I am surrounded by masculinity, geekery, weaponry, pirates, cowboys, cars, tractors, bad guys… and while it is thrilling and wonderful to have this in my day to day, my crafty side is a way to hold onto a tiny corner of frills and femininity.

I took up crocheting for keeps about a year ago. My first project was a little wooly hand muff. Then came slippers. Then an afghan and a plethora of baby blankets and other odds and ends. In the past, I’d pick up a craft for maybe a project or two and I’d get completely bored. But, I find that the more I crochet, the more I love it and want to learn! I love that there are so many great resources online for learning stitches as well as a TON of free patterns to play with.

I gotta say I never thought I’d have a blog. My hubby (who is a geek by profession) laughed a bit when I asked for his help in setting one up. Thanks darling, your support in my crafty endeavors is heartening!

Over the next few days I hope to get some pictures up of my past projects and my current endeavors.

-Sara
